Volunteer Opportunities 2012-2013
Professional Clothing Drive/Closet
We will be collecting professional clothing from November 1st to December 1st but will accept items year round. We are collecting dress slacks, dress coats, ties, business suits (for men and women), etc. Remember, you can receive one volunteer hour for every 4 pieces of clothing that you donate! In the spring, you can receive volunteer hours for working at the Closet. In addition, we will have closet organization nights in which we need your assistance!
American Red Cross Holiday Card Night
We will be doing a Holiday Cards for Soldiers service project in partnership with American Red Cross of Wyandotte County on November 28th! The American Red Cross will be distributing the cards for us. This service project will take place during our normal meeting time from 5:30-7:00 p.m. and will serve as our November group meeting. In addition, throughout the event, you can have your resume reviewed by an employer. Please come help make holiday cards for our soldiers! You may learn more about this project by viewing the video on the right side of this webpage. Remember, this is an easy way to get volunteer points before the semester ends! We also encourage you to bring cards to the event to write messages in for the soldiers. If you bring cards to the event or items to make cards, you will earn one additional volunteer hour. Please do not bring cards or decorations that include glitter.
Career Fair Volunteering
We look for volunteers to help out at all career fairs hosted by the University Career Center. When volunteers are needed, we will give DEI members opportunities to sign up at group meetings or through our website at KUCareerHawk.com/dei. We have different jobs available for volunteers, so you will be provided with a certain task based on the times you are available.
Other “Outside” of DEI Volunteer Hours
We encourage you to volunteer with different organizations outside of DEI. These hours will go towards your volunteer hours needed to qualify for leadership positions and local scholarships. Examples from past DEI Members include: Habitat for Humanity, Women’s Transitional Care Services and Salvation Army. All volunteer hours from other organizations and events can be reported at KUCareerHawk.com/deireporting.
