Professional Image

Whether you are interviewing for an internship or preparing to enter the professional workforce, your professional image can help lead you to success. Knowing professional interviewing, workplace, and dining etiquette, as well as how to manage your social networking profiles are all very important in today's job search. The information provided can help you on your way to professional success.

Interviewing Etiquette

Professionalism is a key component to acing an interview and landing a job.  From the moment you are called and invited to an interview to the time you officially accept an offer, your professional image is being evaluated. Utilizing strong communication skills, being polite and courteous, dressing to impress, and following up with a thank you letter are all important aspects of the interviewing process.

Professional Etiquette in the Workplace

Introduction, business card, email, and phone etiquette are all important in the professional world. View the professional etiquette presentation to the right to learn about these topics and more. Further information regarding professional etiquette is also discussed at the bi-annual etiquette dinners.

Dining Etiquette

Knowing basic dining etiquette can assist you in an interview or business meeting conducted over a meal. A few general tips can help you make a great impression to secure a job offer or business deal. View the dining etiquette presentation to the right to learn basic information that can help you make a great impression! For more information attend one of our etiquette dinners offered in the fall and spring. The cost is $15.00 student. Contact Erin Wolfram at 785-864-7676 or ewolfram@ku.edu for more information.

Business Attire

Dressing for success is key in making a lasting positive impression. Business attire is conservative and consists of neutral colored suits and accessories; it is suggested for interviews and business meetings.  Business casual, however, may be acceptable for day-to-day attire in some professions. You should stand out in an interview or your job because of your professionalism, not because of your loud or unique clothes!  Click on the professional image handout for general tips for men and women.

Online Image

Not only is it essential that your in-person professional image be impeccable; your online presence should reflect your professionalism as well. Visit our Online Image page to learn more about cleaning up, professionalizing, and monitoring your digital footprint.
