Program Description
The purpose of this Course/Study Abroad opportunity is to assist students in gaining a greater understanding of work in countries around the world as well as identify the avenues leading to employment opportunities abroad. An international career can be defined as either working abroad or living stateside and working with international partners. The course will include a spring break study abroad trip to London, England where students will visit 2-3 global companies/organizations, 2 graduate schools and have opportunities to connect with KU alums living abroad.
This will be taught as a seminar course. Students will be responsible for participating in class discussions as well as activities outside the normal class time.
Academic Program
Students and faculty will meet eight times for two hours on the University of Kansas, Lawrence campus during the Spring 2011 semester. These on-campus meetings will cover diverse topics such as: global employment trends, researching career opportunities abroad, applying for jobs abroad, immigration law, the cost of living around the world, and graduate study abroad. During the visit to London, students will visit at make visit and conduct informational interviews with representatives from international corporation, non-profit organizations and/or graduate schools to explore and learn about international having an career. In addition, students will have the opportunity to visit various sites of interest within London, such as: the changing of the guard, the British Museum, the Tate Modern Museum, Big Ben, Parliament, and London’s Financial District.
Credit
All students will receive credit for:
Preparing for International Careers (2 hours of credit)--course number to be determined
Eligibility
Students must meet the requirements of participating in KU Study Abroad and the consent of the instructor. It is expected that students have taken or will take concurrently a job search course such as LA&S 492: Job Search for Liberal Arts & Sciences Students. In addition, coursework and interest in international issues, cultures and language are encouraged. Contact the Program Director for more detailed and specific information.
Accommodations
Accommodation is double or triple occupancy. A full English breakfast will be provided at the hotel each day.
Dates
Spring Semester 2011
Classes will meet for 2 hours, eight times on the KU Lawrence Campus. Six times before Spring Break and twice following Spring Break. Time is TBD based on student schedules. Spring Break in London
Cost
Program Fee: $1920. The fee includes: accommodations, breakfast, local transportation, excursions and site visits, KU orientation, emergency medical evacuation and repatriation services. Additional costs: tuition, airfare, most meals, passport fee, books and personal expenses.

Application Deadline: November 1, 2010 is the deadline for initial review of applications. Applications are available in the KU Office of Study Abroad. You can also download the application. All application materials are to be returned to the Office of Study Abroad. If you are interested and the initial review date has past, contact David Gaston as soon as possible.
